Is Jesus Christ God?

Biblical Proof that

To the body of Jesus Christ:

Is Jesus Christ God or is He a lunatic or a psycho claiming to be God?

Some biblical scholars conclude that He was only a prophet like all of the other prophets such as John the Baptist and those of the Old Testament before him. Of course, the most important question is,

"Who do you think the man, Jesus Christ, is? Is He God or merely a man claiming to be God."

The "God-man" Jesus Christ is both human and divine. Jesus Christ is the second person of the Triune Godhead. The Father, Son and Holy Ghost combined is the Lord God of Hosts. That is, all three persons are one God. The biblical passages below are just some of many found in the "Living Word of God" to prove that Jesus Christ is God.

Critics or cynics may ask the question:

"Why is the author of this article referring to Jesus Christ in the present tense and not in the past tense?" I thought he died and that should qualify for the past tense and not the present tense."

I must disappoint the critics, because we as believers serve a living God.

Jesus Christ's birth, life and death mean nothing without His resurrection and ascension into heaven. The bottom line here is that the "Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" proved that He is God.

The Resurrection means that we believers serve not a dead God, but a living and Holy God who is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent.

The following biblical passages are given as proof from the "Holy Word of God", the Bible, that Jesus is God. We believe He is the "Word" which was God from the beginning, as St. John, chapter 1 describes. We take our belief even further: we believe that Jesus Christ is the "Living Word"; and without the "Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" our faith would be meaningless.

Again, the Resurrection is unequivocal proof that Jesus Christ is God and this fact separates the believers in Jesus Christ (The Church) from all other religions around the world. Christianity, in my view, is not a religion, because we as believers do not search for God. In reality, it is God who creates and calls us. Therefore, the core reality of Christianity is to have an intimate relationship with God. All other faiths are religions because they are searching for God.

The 4th chapter of Hebrews from verses 12 and 13 confirms the above assertion that we as believers serve not just any God, but a Living God.  This is our hope: that we serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and that our citizenship is in heaven.

The Scriptures say:

"For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of the soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account."

I say He is God because the Word of God says so:

that Jesus is God and that is all the authority I need.

The 5th chapter of the book of 1 John says:

"For there are three who bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. There are many Scriptures in the Bible to prove that Jesus is God. One of them is found in 1 John 5, verses  18 through 20. It reads,

"We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of God and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son, Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

The gospel of John, the first chapter, and the first verse says,

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God."  The 14th verse of the same chapter says "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory and the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."

In the New Testament, the book of Colossians, the first chapter from verses 15 through 18 reads, "He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on the earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence."

The book of Hebrews chapter 4, verses 12 and 13 says,

"For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of the soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account."

The above scripture confirms that the Word of God is living and powerful. Because Jesus Christ resurrected from the grave and conquered death, we serve not only God, but to put it another way, we serve a "Living and all Powerful" God which is also the "Living Word" which is our Lord and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. This proves that He is our God and He has no beginning or ending.

Jesus said to the Jews in St. John, Chapter 8 from verses 56 to 59 saying,

"Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad. Then the Jews said to Him, you are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham. Jesus said to them, Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was I AM. Then they took up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by."

This Scripture clarifies that Jesus was the God that spoke to Moses in the Old Testament at the burning bush. "Then Moses said to God, Indeed when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, the God of our fathers has sent me, What is His name? "What shall I say to them?" and God (Jesus) said to Moses to say "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, thus you shall say to the children of Israel, I AM has sent me to you."

It also proves that it was Jesus who called Abraham to be the father of many nations and made an everlasting covenant with Him and His descendents forever. Genesis chapters 13 thru 15 and Exodus chapter 3, from verses 13 thru 14 will verify and validate the Scriptures that are mentioned in the above paragraph.

Lastly, to put the icing on the cake, Isaiah chapter 9 verse 6 says,

"For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

The Scriptures again clearly state that one of Jesus many names is the

"Mighty God and Everlasting Father".

The most important message here is the proof in the Holy Scriptures, the Bible, the "Word of God", that Jesus Christ is God. The following points are factual proof that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is God all by Himself.

-  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

-  For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of the soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

-  For there are three who bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

-  We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself and the wicked one does not touch him.         We know that we are of God and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son, Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

-  And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory and the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

-  He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on the earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

-  'Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.' Then the Jews said to Him, you are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham. Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.'

In conclusion, this lesson was written specifically for believers, showing them how to defend their faith in Jesus Christ; that Jesus Christ is God; and that our sword is the "Word of God", the Bible, which is the written expression of Jesus Christ.

Christians can successfully defend their faith in Jesus Christ not only as their Savior and Lord, but also as their God. We can counter the critics and cynics graciously and successfully. It is important to remember that those who do not believe that the Bible is God's "Living Word" will not believe that Jesus is God.

Secondly, all believers must believe ALL of God's Holy Word, from Genesis to Revelation. You cannot pick and choose what you want to believe in the Word of God. If you do, you can not qualify as true saints of the Living God.

Again, God does not give suggestions.

He expects all believers to believe

and obey the entire Word of God,

the Holy Bible.

In His Awesome and Holy Presence,

St. Wisdom
