Stand Up For Religious Freedom -- Boise Idaho Rally
Date: Mar 23, 2012
|
We submitted our permit application and were advised that approval could take 7-10 days. I asked to please place a rush on our approval as the rally was scheduled for Friday, March 23rd. Many of my helpers feared placing their names on the application, but with Matt Yonke's (Asst Communications Director for Pro-Life Action League) encouragement, I placed my name on the application and submitted it for approval. COURAGE On Tuesday morning the approved application was in my inbox. From there our team sent out notices and developed our Facebook page for the Boise, ID Rally site. In spite of short notice for our gathering, we had about 150 people who showed up and it was awesome! Although standing in front of a crowd to speak is one of my phobias, God granted me the courage and wisdom I needed to overcome my fear that day.
With short notice for the gathering, about 150 people showed up and it was awesome! Although standing in front of a crowd to speak is one of my phobias, God granted the courage and wisdom needed to overcome my fear this day. FAITHFULNESS It started off very cold, and eventually started to rain. By noon when our rally began, the clouds opened, the sun started to shine and the rain stopped. God truly is great! He heard our prayers for the skies to clear and to allow good weather to prevail.
Many came forward to express their feelings, telling why they were standing up to say "No, Stop the HHS Mandate". It was great to know that we are not alone opposing this mandate issue. STAY TUNED! Afterwards, many asked what was next. I simply advised them to stay tuned, for this is just the beginning. Reasons Why the Nationwide Rallies For Religious Freedom Were Held:
1. We protest the federal government's definition of what constitutes a religious institution through the narrowly constructed "exemption" to the HHS Mandate -- a definition which is both false and beyond the federal government's authority to make. 2. We protest the fact that religious institutions, even after President Obama's so-called "accommodation," are being forced to facilitate contraception, sterilizations, and abortion-inducing drugs through the "health plans" they are mandated to provide. 3. We protest the Mandate forcing all businesses-not just religious institutions-to provide coverage of contraception, sterilizations, and abortion-inducing drugs, if doing so violates their own moral convictions. 4. We protest the HHS Mandate because, in requiring all health plans to provide free contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs as "preventative care," it treats pregnancy and childbirth as a disease. What Should the Rally Accomplish? 1. The federal government should advance women's health without sacrificing rights of conscience or religious freedom. 2. There should be religious exemption broad enough to include all religious institutions-such as hospitals, universities and charities-not just small churches and religious orders. 3. The federal government should cease violating the First Amendment by defining as religious, only those institutions that hire, teach or serve people predominantly of their own faith tradition. 4. The conscientious rights of business owners who do not wish to provide morally objectionable medical services, should be respected.
